Orphan charity SOS Children's Villages have released a free electronic encyclopaedia (with 8000 images and 4000 pages worth of text) made up of articles cleaned up and selected from the free online community created Wikipedia site. The articles have apparently been chosen to appeal to children aged 8-15 although I think younger students will struggle with the difficulty of the text in places. It's certainly an interesting idea. You can download the entire resource as a zip file or use it online.
