Edublog Awards 2007

http://edublogawards.com/edublog-awards-2007-finalists-announced/
Each year Edublog invites the public to nominate and vote for their favourite educational blogs. The 2007 Edublog Awards finalists have just been announced.

Andrew Ross' excellent Primary Teacher UK has been nominated in the best teacher blog category. Well done, Andrew. I'm sure that you find his blog as useful as I do, so why not pop along to the Edublog site and vote for it.

There are lots of great sites in the other categories and it's well worth spending a bit of time clicking through and checking them out. You're sure to find lots of useful information and resources.

One blog that is part of my feed list already is Larry Ferlazzo’s Websites Of The Day For Teaching ELL, ESL, & EFL which is nominated in the best resource sharing blog section. Browsing the list of finalists I've just come across the Talkabout Primary MFL site which is nominated in the best educational use of a social network service category. It looks like a really interesting resource for anyone who is looking to teach languages in their primary school. It's another one that I'm going to vote for.

Site Update: 23rd November 2007

Thanks to everyone who sent in contributions, I've been able to add 50 new resources to the main website this week. Full details of all the additions are given here.

Delayed Update

I've been experiencing problems uploading today's update to the server. As things don't seem to be working at the moment I'm going to call it a night and try again in the morning. Apologies for the delay.

Contributors

As I was finishing the latest update, adding names to the contributors pages, I realised that well over 1800 people have had their work included so far on the Primary Resources site. Wow! That's an awful lot of teachers. My thanks go to everyone who has taken the time to send in material. I continue to be extremely grateful for your support and I'm sure your colleagues around the world really appreciate the resources you have all shared.

(The most common first name of contributors is Sarah. The most common surname, Smith. And no, I didn't count the names! I pasted the list into a word frequency counter.)

Stories for Learning

Included in this week's site update are some great stories for learning by Pat Walsh. They've been designed to introduce science (and other) concepts to younger students. I think the powerpoints are really sweet so I've put them online early. You can check them out by clicking this link.

Happy Birthday Primary Resources!

Happy Birthday to us! The first version of this website went online way back in November 1998 which means that Primary Resources is nine years old this month.

The success and longevity of the site is all down to the wonderful contributors who have kept sending in their worksheets, lesson plans and ideas on a regular basis. Your material makes the site what it is and I'm happy to have been able to provide a place for you to share your resources with colleagues all around the world.

My thanks also go to our main site sponsor RM who have provided free hosting for Primary Resources for the last five years.

In this quickly changing online world it's nice to know that people are still finding Primary Resources useful. I've got lots of plans for the future of the site and I'm definitely looking forward to continuing to work on Primary Resources as we move into our tenth year online.

Phonics and Spelling Programme

As I've been busy decorating I'm probably not going to get an update done this Friday. However, I have been looking through some of the contributions I'm going to include next week.

Fidelia Nimmons has sent me her excellent phonics and spelling programme which combines material from all the various lists and strategies into one easy reference document. It's well worth a look and you can access it now by clicking on the link above.
