Beginnings, middles and ends!

This sheet gives some examples of the shapes of the beginnings, middles and ends of pieces.  The black line indicates the ‘home note’ which will have been explained to you earlier.

This first example has the shape of a beginning.   The first two notes start at ‘home’ and then begin to drift away from ‘home’ to start a tune.

This example is of a middle.  You can see that the notes are independent of the ‘home note’.

This example is of an ending.  You can see that all the notes come down to rest at ‘home’.

This is also an example of an ending.   Although the notes seem to be a long way away from the ‘home note’ they still come to rest at home in the end.

This is an example of a middle.  Although the notes go through the ‘home note’ they don’t start there and they don’t finish there.
