Other Jacqueline Wilson Book Activities

Here's some other activities that you can do based on the books of Jacqueline Wilson.

Jacqueline Wilson Book Activity (Idea and worksheet by Paul Cockcroft)

This activity takes an awful lot of preparation but we found that it was well worth doing and the children really loved it.
You need to prepare a pack of materials for each pair/group of three children. In our packs we put scanned and reduced copies of 12 different Jacqueline Wilson book front covers. We also had twelve blurb cards. On these cards we typed up the blurb from on the back of the twelve books we'd used (we ****ed out any reference to the title). The final set of twelve cards contained a selected page from inside each of the twelve books (again, this was reduced down - four to an A4 page is a good size).

The children were given this activity sheet...

Jacqueline Wilson

You have an envelope containing:
Front book covers
Back book covers
Samples of text.
Do not mix these up or the tasks will get very difficult!

Task One
Use your skill (and the clues available) to match up the front covers to the back covers of the same book.

Task Two
Now you have the front cover and back cover matched up, find the sample of text that you think came out of the book. Again, look for clues to help you.

Task Three
Looking at all three pieces of evidence together for each book, try and answer these questions:
1. What do you think the book might be about?
2. Who do you think might like to read the book? (Think of boys/girls, age of reader etc)

Task Four
There are no incorrect answers for this task. Sort the books into categories. You might all have different reasons for grouping the books. One idea (which you can not do now because I've told you!) is alphabetical order. This, however, is a very boring method of sorting them. I'm sure you can come up with much better ideas.
