Talk Time
Contributed by Anne Davies

Anne writes: 'This has been a great way of helping children who like to chat too much or cannot stop themselves from jumping in with the answer.

* Each child is supplied with or can make 5 tickets saying ‘Talk Ticket’.

* The tickets are left on the edge of the desk.

* Each time the child talks at the wrong time (having had an initial warning) one ticket is removed.

If they have all their tickets left at the end of the lesson the child should be given a pre-planned reward, possibly decided with the child at the beginning of the day.

I use this with MLD teens (who made their own tickets) but the idea was taken from a primary school (who provides laminated tickets). Highly successful and the pupils take responsibility for the amount of talking they do!'
