Macavity
I love this activity idea by Sheila Black.
It's based on T.S. Eliot's famous 'Macavity: The Mystery
Cat' poem. Basically the children have to create a wanted
poster for Macavity. On the poster they have to state
the crimes that he is wanted for. They have to include
a description of the cat. They also have to include
some details of his habits and where he might be found.
All these details can be extracted from the poem. To
finish off the wanted poster the children need to include
a picture and some details of what to do if Macavity
is spotted.
Skimbleshanks
Another T.S. Eliot cat poem features
Skimbleshanks, the railway cat. Sheila's activity involves
the children creating a magazine/newspaper front cover
that celebrates Skimbleshanks' work on the railway.
Again, the children must use the poem to locate information
to feature on their front cover.
