Making Sandwiches
contributed by Esther Watt of Millfield C.P School, Heighington, Lincoln

Literacy - Following instructions and sequencing/flowcharts

INSTRUCTIONS - 'Sandwich Order' was used with Year 2 children. They read and followed the instructions, making a sandwich with some provided ingredients. (See below for the htm version or click here for the PDF.)

SEQUENCING/FLOWCHARTS - 'Sandwich making' was used with the same children. Both worksheets were given to the children who read, cut out and sorted before pasting onto the flowchart sheet. ( A good activity to keep them busy while you help the INSTRUCTIONS group) [Click here for the woksheet.]

INSTRUCTIONS

1. First decide what type of filling you would like and check to see if there is some available.

2. Next take two slices of bread and butter each of them on one side only.

3. Put your filling on one slice of bread, butter side up. You may choose two fillings.

4. Place the other piece of bread, butter side down, on top of the filling.

5. Now cut your sandwich carefully with a knife.

6. Now sit down and enjoy your sandwich.

7. Finally, clear away the things you have been using.
