Odd and Even / Popcorn
Activity by D Benton

D Benton was kind enough to email this contribution...

I have a game call Popcorn. My 3rd grade students love this game. They bend down by their chair. When I call a even number they pop up!! When I call a odd number they must bend down. It's fun because I make up large number after they get the hang of it. Who ever is left in the game is the winner. Sometimes I give out a little treat!! I mix up all kinds of number to trick them. They love it. It helps them to recognize even and odd numbers without giving them a boring worksheet.

A great idea. :-) You could extend it by having different groups of children listening out for different things e.g. Is it in the 10 times tables? Is it in the 2 times table?
If you don't like the idea of children popping out from behind chairs then perhaps they could hold something up or do some sort of fun action to signify a certain type of number. If you had a younger class you could have teddy bears popping up for even numbers or whatever.
As always, if you've got any variations on this (or any other of the activities on the site) then please send them in.
