Stamps
Idea contributed by Grant Whitaker of Croftinloan School

You have an unlimited supply of 1p and 2p stamps only. If you were to post a letter costing 1p then there would be 1 way of covering the postage, i.e. with one 1p stamp.
-> 1p

If you were to post a letter costing 2p then there would be 2 ways of covering the postage, i.e. with one 2p stamp or two 1p stamps.
-> 1p, 1p 2p

If you were to post a letter costing 3p then there would be 4 ways of covering the postage, i.e. with two 2p stamps, with a 2p stamp and a 1p stamp, with a 1p stamp and a 2p stamp or three 1p stamps.
-> 2p, 2p 2p, 1p 1p, 2p 1p,1p,1p,

Continue the investigation to discover how many ways there are for covering the cost of 10p with only 1p and 2p stamps.
Be systematic and draw up and ordered list. Make a table of your results. Look for a pattern.
1p 1 way 2p 2 ways 3p 4 ways etc...
