Thoughtful Advent Calendar
Contributed by Clare Hughes

Clare writes: 'This idea would probably be most suitable for KS2, but could possibly be adapted for KS1.

If you have an advent calender with pockets that you usually but small sweets etc into, why not get the children in your class to each write a Christmas prayer or thought on a small slip of paper and write their name on the back (e.g. Let us think about all the people who have no homes or kind people to look after them.).  Place randomly a prayer or thought into each pocket and during December select a child each day to open and read the message inside.

This is a lovely way of encouraging children to think of those less fortunate than ourselves.  The messages could then be hung on the Christmas tree or given to its author to glue into PSHE or RE books.'
